Valve reveals new Steam Machine, its next attempt at a PC/console hybrid

Valve revealed its next batch of at-home hardware on Wednesday, including a new take on the Steam Machine, a gaming PC that’s intended to be used like a console. Also revealed were the Steam Frame, which is Valve’s next VR headset, and a new Steam Controller, all of which are planned to ship in “early 2026.” Valve said it will share more specific timing “after the first of the year.”

Valve has not yet revealed the prices for Steam Machine, Steam Frame, or new Steam Controller, but all are available to wishlist via Steam. All three products will ship to the United States, Canada, the UK, the EU, and Australia. Distribution for Japan, South Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan will be handled by Komodo, which also currently distributes the Steam Deck.

Steam Machine

The cube-shaped Steam Machine will come with Steam OS, is “optimized” for playing games, and is designed to sit by your TV like a game console or on your desk like a gaming PC. Because it’s a PC, you can install other apps and programs or a different operating system. And like the Steam Deck, all you have to do is sign in to your Steam account to access all the games in your Steam library.

The Steam Machine will come with a semi-custom AMD Zen 4 6C / 12T (up to 4.8 GHz, 30W TDP), a semi-custom AMD RDNA3 28CUs (2.45GHz max sustained clock, 110W TDP), and 16GB DDR5 + 8GB GDDR6 VRAM. There will be two models, a 512 GB and a 2 TB model, both with slots for high-speed microSD cards. Valve notes Steam Machine contains “six times the horsepower” of its handheld device, the Steam Deck. You can head to the Steam Machine’s store page for the full specs.

Like how games can earn a green Steam Deck Verified checkmark, Valve will also include similar ratings for the Steam Machine to indicate how games run on it, and if those games pass Valve’s internal benchmarks.

Steam Frame

The Steam Frame headset is intended to stream all of your Steam games, not just VR-specific titles. It’s described as “comfortable, wireless, lightweight,” and supports controller input for regular PC games and VR games.

Valve describes it as “streaming-first” and a PC itself “powered by a Snapdragon processor.” Like the Steam Machine, games will also receive verification ratings to indicate which games will work “stand-alone” on it. Head to the Steam Frame page for its full spec details as well as those of its controller.

Steam Controller

Valve’s new Steam Controller is the final piece of hardware unveiled Wednesday. Steam Deck owners will notice the trackpads on either side of the controller, just like those on the Steam Deck. They’re great for games that are usually best played with a mouse and keyboard, like first-person shooters or real-time strategy games.

With the trackpads and grip buttons on the back, the Steam Controller will be highly customizable. “Thanks to its input parity with Steam Deck, Steam Controller will be pre-populated with community configurations for thousands of games from day one, or you can make and share your own,” Valve wrote on the store page for this hardware. It’ll be usable with any device using Steam or the Steam Link app, like PCs, tablets, and phones. Of course, it will pair well with a docked Steam Deck, Steam Frame, and Steam Machine. The Steam Controller store page has its full specs listed.
