First look at sequel for iconic noughties hit

Gird your loins because the first teaser trailer for highly anticipated sequel to the smash-hit movie, The Devil Wears Prada, was released overnight.

Fans were given a first look at the second instalment of the rom-com which sees stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway reunite on screen almost 20 years after the original film premiered in cinemas in 2006.

Aptly set to the soundtrack of Madonna’s chart-topper Vogue, the trailer shows Streep’s return as intimidating editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly, who marches her way in red studded stilettos through Runway magazine’s offices and into an elevator where her former assistant, Andy Sachs (Hathaway), joins her just before the doors close.

“Took you long enough,” Miranda smirks in her direction, while Andy slips on her own black sunglasses.

OG stars Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci will also return in the fashionable sequel set in New York.

The original followed recent college graduate Andy as she lands a job at Runway magazine as a junior assistant to the ever demanding and powerful Miranda, who gives her gruelling errands to run and impossible tasks to complete.

At the end, Andy realises the job changed her into someone she didn’t want to be, so she controversially quit despite many young girls itching to work for Miranda.

The film was a success and grossed $US326 million at the worldwide box office.

The sequel will follow Miranda as she attempts to thrive in a world where print journalism is struggling like never before. The publishing powerhouse soon finds herself up against Emily Charlton (Blunt), who like Andy was Miranda’s former assistant.

Emily is now a top executive for a luxury group with advertising revenue that Miranda desperately needs for her magazine.

The plot will centre on Andy collaborating with Miranda to save the mag, as the pair prepare for a dramatic showdown against the formidable Emily.

Aussie actor Simon Baker played the elusive Christian Thompson in the first film – a womanising journalist who was both an antagonist and potential love interest for Andy.

With Baker unlikely to return in the sequel, another Aussie actor will fly the Aussie flag high for Australia: Patrick Brammall.

The Colin From Accounts favourite was spotted cosying up to Hathaway the Brooklyn set back in August as it was announced the award-winning local star would be playing her love interest in the sequel.

The pair could be seen dancing, cuddling and kissing in the street as part of the scene.

Stream Colin From Accounts now on BINGE, available on Hubbl.

Brammall’s involvement in the movie heralds his first major Hollywood production of this calibre, with the comedic actor working largely in local television over the years, including roles on Home and Away, All Saints, Offspring and the aforementioned BINGE Original series Colin From Accounts, which starts production on Season 3 in January.

Brammall created and starred in Binge’s comedy Colin From Accounts alongside his wife and collaborator, Harriet Dyer.

Since it premiered in 2022, the show has gone on to experience global success. It’s now licensed to over 150 territories around the world, including on Paramount+ in the US and the BBC in the UK.

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is scheduled for Australian cinema release on April 29 next year.
