Manchester United contact Jorge Mendes for €80m player – Wild transfer claims for misfit

Borussia Dortmund’s Karim Adeyemi has emerged as a potential target for Manchester United.

That’s according to Bild, who cover the 23-year-old’s situation at BVB and alleged Manchester United’s interest.

The forward has three goals and three assists from 14 matches this season and has only one assist since October. Bild explain there’s been tension between him and Borussia Dortmund manager Niko Kovač in recent weeks.

The Germany international is said to be a topic of discussion internally within his club, with issues on and off the pitch. His contract lasts until 2027 and the Bundesliga side have a desire to secure him to an extension.

Adeyemi wants a long-term contract with a release clause. Although Borussia Dortmund generally aren’t in favour of this, they could consider it in his case. There’s a suggestion of an €80m release clause.

In the meantime, the report states Manchester United have ‘entered the fray’. He’s recently changed agents and is now represented by Jorge Mendes, who has good ties with the Red Devils.

Bild claim ‘there has been an exchange’ between Manchester United and the super-agent regarding Adeyemi.

BVB know that if Manchester United were to become serious, Adeyemi’s future at the club ‘could become a topic of discussion sooner than many would like’.

Manchester United claims not entirely convincing

Lisbon, Portugal – 02 11 2025: Karim Adeyemi and Pascal Gross seen during UEFA Champions League game between teams of Sporting CP and Borussia Dortmund

Manchester United signed three attackers last summer. A Borussia Dortmund player who is having on and off pitch issues and whose character has been questioned recently doesn’t appear to be a realistic target.

He recently threw a strop – and a bottle – after being brought off by manager Nico Kovac. Ruben Amorim wouldn’t be having any of those games.

Whether it’s Mendes, BVB or the German media throwing Manchester United in for drama is unclear.

Newcastle United and Chelsea were linked by the same source in July, but neither are mentioned now. Those links weren’t overly convincing either.
