Harry Potter TV Show’s Costume Change Is Actually Genius For Warner Bros

It looks like HBO has changed the Hogwarts uniforms for its upcoming Harry Potter remake, and this could actually be hugely beneficial for Warner Bros. Though previous images from the new series showed star Dominic McLaughlin (Harry) in a rather familiar set of robes, it appears that these won’t necessarily be the standard for all students. Instead, there may be a wider variety.
The latest wave of Harry Potter set images offered a first look at other actors in costume, including Lox Pratt (Draco Malfoy), Alastair Stout (Ron Weasley), and Rory Wilmot (Neville Longbottom). Joined by McLaughlin, this group is seen in Hogwarts robes that, rather than the standard black of the Harry Potter movies, appear to be a burnt red. The interior of the robes’ hoods looks to be pattered with greenish plaid.

The previous, highly familiar look of the Hogwarts school robes, popularized by the Harry Potter movies, is iconic, so it’s a bit of a surprise that HBO has decided to make a change. However, from Warner Bros’ perspective, it actually makes a lot of sense.
HBO’s Harry Potter Changing The Hogwarts Robes Will Be Extremely Profitable For Warner Bros
While changing the traditional costumes from the Harry Potter movies is a risk, it will likely be highly profitable for Warner Bros. For decades now, fans have been purchasing merchandise meant to duplicate the films. This only increased with the opening of the Wizarding World amusement parks, where visitors can shop for their very own black school robes. Now, the Harry Potter remake has officially opened the door to further profit.
As HBO’s TV show popularizes this new style of Hogwarts robes—and as a new generation recognizes them as the real deal—a wider variety of fan merchandise is sure to become available. Collectors will need to add these new brownish-red robes to their wardrobes. Of course, it’s unlikely to end there. The appearance of the world of Harry Potter is going to change, so all that same merch we’ve seen on shelves for years will get an upgrade.
The Harry Potter Remake Must Be Strategic About What It Changes About The Wizarding World
Hogwarts at Night – Harry Potter
While it’s profitable for Warner Bros to change the appearance of the Wizarding World in HBO’s Harry Potter remake, the company will have to tread carefully. It’s important that fans continue to feel familiar with this world they have known and loved for so long.
Additionally, it wouldn’t be financially lucrative for the Wizarding World theme park to have to make major structural changes to features like Gringotts Bank, Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, and, especially, Hogwarts Castle. New Hogwarts robes are an easy thing to add to shelves alongside those from the movies. However, other types of changes to Harry Potter could do Warner Bros more harm than good.
