Lindsay Lohan’s “nostalgia rush” legacy sequel Freakier Friday finally gets new UK streaming home

Lindsay Lohan’s Freaky Friday legacy sequel Freakier Friday has found itself a new streaming home in the UK following its release in the cinemas in the summer. As you’d expect for a film made by Disney, that streaming home is none other than Disney+. The body-swap comedy is currently available on the House of Mouse’s streaming platform as of today after previously only being available to buy or rent from digital platforms such as Prime Video and AppleTV.
The original film is also available on Disney+, if you fancied doing a double-bill.
If you’re not a subscriber, you can sign up to Disney+ from £5.99 per month for the Standard with Ads package. There’s also the ad-free Standard tier (£9.99 a month/£99.90 a year) or the 4K Premium tier (£14.99 a month/£149.90 a year).
Set 22 years after the first movie, Freakier Friday focuses on an older Anna (Lohan) who raises her teenage daughter Harper with the help of her own mum Tess (Jamie Lee Curtis).
She falls in love with the handsome Eric and they get engaged, but there’s a problem — Harper and Eric’s daughter Lily don’t get on. Like, at all.

That’s when things once again get freaky, as Harper and Lily swap bodies with Anna and Tess. Can they reverse the effects when it’s double the chaos?
Freakier Friday did pretty well with critics, landing a very respectable 74% positive score on Rotten Tomatoes from 225 reviews.

“It’s heaps of fun watching Curtis chuck herself around the set in the name of slapstick as Lohan delivers the sort of poised performance she built her career on 20 years ago,” wrote NME. “Freakier Friday isn’t a flawless sequel but it does supply a satisfying nostalgia rush.”
“Freakier Friday is better than such recent Disney IP revivals as Hocus Pocus 2, even if the film is a little cluttered,” said The Irish Times, while The Film Verdict said it “represents an all-too-rare opportunity for talented women on both sides of the camera to demonstrate their chops at big-screen comedy”.
Freakier Friday is available to watch now on Disney+, and can bought or rented digitally or on disc.
