Celebrity Traitors star Charlotte Church’s son in BBC drama after ditiching rugby to act

The son of Celebrity Traitors star Charlotte Church has stunned viewers after appearing on television screens on Monday evening.

The 16-year-old featured in the BBC short film Waiting for Burton, which chronicles a young girl’s fascination with the work of actor Richard Burton.

Dexter, who is also the son of rugby legend Gavin Henson, portrays the supporting character of Rhydian in the short film, marking what appears to be his acting debut following his decision to abandon rugby.

“It was good,” he revealed in an interview with It’s My Shout, a film training scheme behind the production.

“It was my first time working on a set, so it was a bit new for me,” reports Wales Online.

“It was great. I was well looked after. Philip Jones, the director was great. He was a mentor so he helped me out a lot.

“It was really exciting. I really enjoyed myself.

“It’s a more recent passion. I was more into the rugby since about the age of five. But I’d sort of had enough of it, so I wanted to try something different. I love it.”

The appearance of Dexter on screen may well shock some viewers, though he did capture attention last month when he made a rare public outing alongside his mother at the Bafta Cymru Awards.

Numerous observers remarked on the teenager’s likeness to his father, with Dexter also dwarfing his mother as they strolled down the red carpet.

Charlotte and Gavin were regarded as Wales’ celebrity power couple during the 2000s but parted ways in 2010, following five years together. Both have since remarried.

Charlotte was recently seen in BBC hit Celebrity Traitors but she was ‘murdered’ long before Traitor Alan Carr went on to win the prize pot in the gripping finale.

Celebrity Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer
