Shefali Shah, a star of Delhi Crime 3, states: If Sons Are Brought Up Properly, Girls Will Be Protected | Exclusive

Shefali Shah is back as Vartika Chaturvedi in the third season of Delhi Crime. In a special interview with Zoom prior to the show’s debut on Netflix, the actress discussed the topic of women’s safety and the significance of being aware of one’s surroundings.

Shefali Shah emphasizes the need for women to take charge of their safety

Shefali shared, “As a woman, it’s crucial to be conscious of your environment. You need to stay alert. It’s unfortunate, but ensuring my safety is my own duty. It’s disheartening that I can’t rely on others for this. Every woman has faced some form of harassment, whether it’s inappropriate touching or being cat-called; the severity may differ. However, if I notice an actress on set or during a flight who seems uneasy, I don’t hesitate to check in on her. This is a collective responsibility. Ideally, we would eliminate these issues entirely, but since that’s not feasible, we must remain vigilant and do our best to safeguard ourselves.”

‘Educate sons properly’

She further remarked, “The way women are treated is appalling. I believe men should be more observant because not every man is a perpetrator. In a perfect world, why are we conforming to circumstances instead of asserting that such behavior should not exist? That’s the ideal scenario. When will that become a reality? I can’t say. I truly believe that our daughters will be safer if our sons are brought up correctly, but that change won’t happen overnight; it’s a long journey ahead. That said, yes, women, regardless of their attire, circumstances, or social standing, will encounter challenges.”

The actress went on, “When I worked on Monsoon Wedding, my friends and I were chatting, and suddenly everyone had a story to share, with varying degrees of severity. Some had experienced cat-calling, while others had sadly faced molestation; the intensity varies. Nearly every woman has faced such situations. While I aspire for a perfect world, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with fiercely protecting oneself. It’s solely your responsibility. There’s nothing inappropriate about it. I’m not suggesting whether you should or shouldn’t, but simply prioritize your own safety. It’s my individual duty to care for myself. If I can remember to safeguard myself, I can also help others, whether I know them or not.”

Delhi Crime 3 also features Huma Qureshi, Rasika Dugal, Sayani Gupta, Rajesh Tailang, and more.
