See All the Throwback ’90s Looks on the GQ Men of the Year Red Carpet

The stars are out in Hollywood tonight for GQ’s Men of the Year 2025 party, and they’re all partying like it’s 1995.

Indeed, this year’s esteemed guests and honorees are gathered at the Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles—as we speak!—to celebrate three decades of MOTY. Given that the official dress code for the evening is ’90s Hollywood Red Carpet, we’re seeing our share of archival and vintage fashion, as well as direct references to iconic 1990s ensembles.

As an official co-host of GQ’s MOTY 30 livestream, internet personality Quenlin Blackwell is rocking an extra-special trio of premium archival pulls. Ahead of the show, she kicked things off in the actual red, white, and blue Tommy Hilfiger tube top and wide-legged jeans worn by the late Aaliyah in 1997, borrowing the outfit from Hilfiger’s archives; next, she upped the ante in Gwyneth Paltrow’s red velvet suit from Gucci’s fall 1996 collection—designed, of course, by 2023 MOTY honoree Tom Ford—via Artifact New York. Then, for her proper hosting duties, Blackwell rocked her own archival Mugler skirt suit from spring 1996.

Elsewhere on the carpet, MOTY honoree Sydney Sweeney wowed in the iconic crushed velvet gown with a sweetheart neckline from Versace’s fall 1995 collection. Designed by Gianni Versace himself, the dress was memorably modeled on the runway by Eva Herzigova and later worn by Naomi Campbell. Sweeney turned up the dial with her hair and makeup: smudgy eyeliner, choppy platinum bob, and a sweet choker necklace.

Jumping ahead a few years into the early 2000s: Fellow MOTY honoree Hailey Bieber’s sheer Gucci halter dress—which featured a low open back that dipped to show off a double-G-logo G-string—felt like a spiritual nod to Gillian Anderson’s inky Eduardo Lucero gown and visible thong at the 2001 Vanity Fair Oscar Party…and maybe a touch of Rose McGowan’s famous barely-there dress from the 1998 MTV VMAs. It was also a nice callback to a past Hailey look: her peekaboo Alexander Wang dress with matching Barbie-pink thong at the camp-themed 2019 Met Gala.

Meanwhile, White Lotus star Patrick Schwarzenegger appeared to pay homage to his Terminator dad, Arnold, in a full leather look by Tom Ford. The elder Schwarzenegger memorably wore plenty of leather in and around the promotion of the 1991 classic Terminator 2: Judgment Day. Unlike his pops, though, Patrick decided to skip the undershirt: When the MOTY livestream co-hosts, How Long Gone’s Chris Black and Jason Stewart, asked the actor what the actor was wearing under his leather shirt, he quipped, “Nothing, brother. I let it squeak all over.”
