From M.Sc. Scholar to Political Contender: Satish Kumar Back in Raghopur

BJP’s Satish Kumar has given tough competition to RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav in the Raghopur constituency. After losing the seat three times to Tejashwi Yadav, the incumbent MLA and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, Kumar is determined to secure it this time. If he wins, his victory will reflect the party’s organisational strength in the region, positioning him to play a significant role in shaping key administrative decisions for the state.

As the tough battle continues, let’s have a quick look at the early life and academic background of Satish Kumar.

Early Life & Academic Background

Satish Kumar Yadav, also known as Satish Raj, was born on 9 February 1966 in Rampur Shyamchand village, Raghopur, Vaishali district, Bihar, to Shyam Narayan Yadav, who was a farmer. He completed his postgraduate degree, an M.Sc. (Master of Science), at Magadh University, at the College of Commerce, Arts and Science (ended in 1992).

The Political Journey of Satish Kumar

Yadav started his political career with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), but later joined the Janata Dal (United) (JDU). Back in 2010, he contested the Bihar Legislative Elections from Raghopur on a JDU ticket and won against former Chief Minister Rabri Devi.

Following the JDU-RJD alliance in 2015, the Raghopur seat was granted to RJD, after which Tejashwi Yadav contested and won it. Satish Kumar Yadav then joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and contested but lost by 22,733 votes.

Then, in the 2020 legislative elections, Satish Kumar Yadav contested once again from Raghopur against Tejashwi Yadav. At that time, the presence of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) candidate divided the Rajput vote base, which led to the failure of Yadav.

Now, in 2025, Satish is once again contesting to represent the BJP/NDA from Raghopur against Tejashwi Yadav, ultimately claiming victory over him.
