Victoria Grizzlies forward Max Silver, Chilliwack Chiefs forward Boris Borin and Grizzlies goaltender Paolo Frasca have been named the NAPA Auto Parts 3 Stars of the Week.
1st Star – Max Silver (F) – Victoria Grizzlies
Silver was a goal-scoring machine last week for the Grizzlies, piling up six in just two contests, while adding an assist for seven points.
On Friday night, the second-year forward notched his first-career BCHL hat trick with his second power-play goal of the game late in the middle frame. He wasn’t done though, as he added another in the third for a four-goal outing in a 7-3 home win over the Powell River Kings. On Sunday evening, in a rematch against Powell River, Silver registered two goals and an assist in a 9-0 road victory. He was named first star in both games.
The Colgate University commit is now up to 13 goals on the year, which is third most in the league. He also has six assists to give him 19 points.
2nd Star – Boris Borin (F) – Chilliwack Chiefs
Borin averaged three points per game last week with six points in two contests on four goals and a pair of helpers.
After picking up an assist on Friday in a 5-3 road defeat at the hands of the Coquitlam Express, the Russian forward scored four goals and added an assist the following night in a 10-3 home win against the Surrey Eagles. Borin’s second of the game early in the middle frame held up as the winner. He was named first star of the game.
The 2008-born rookie has only played three games in the league since debuting with the Chiefs on Nov. 1, but is already up to five goals and seven points on the season.
3rd Star – Paolo Frasca (G) – Victoria Grizzlies
Frasca won both of his starts over the weekend, stopping 56 of the 59 shots he faced in a home-and-home against the Powell River Kings. He finished his week with a .949 save percentage, a 1.50 goals-against average and one shutout.
The 19-year-old netminder stopped 34 of 37 shots on Friday night in Victoria’s 7-3 home win over the Powell River Kings. Two days later, Frasca got the start again and picked up his league-leading fourth shutout of the season, stopping all 22 shots he faced in a 9-0 win.
The Toronto, Ont. native has a league-best .941 save percentage this year to go along with a 2.17 goals-against average, which ranks fifth in the BCHL. He owns a 6-3-0 record over his 12 appearances.
