On the very day his return to Rajasthan Royals for IPL 2026 was announced, Ravindra Jadeja also joined an elite club of Test all-rounders that includes legends Kapil Dev, Ian Botham and Daniel Vettori.

Jadeja scored a handy 27 off 45 balls during India’s first innings of the ongoing first Test against world champions South Africa at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata, thereby reaching the 4000-run milestone in the format.

Reaching the milestone also made Jadeja only the fourth cricketer in history to score over 4000 runs and pick up over 300 wickets in the longest format of the game.

Only Indian cricket legend Kapil Dev (5248 runs and 434 wickets in 131 matches), English icon Ian Botham (5200 runs and 383 wickets in 102 matches) and New Zealand spin wizard Daniel Vettori (4531 runs and 362 wickets in 113 matches) have managed the feat before Jadeja.

Jadeja has played 88 Test matches for the Indian cricket team to date, accumulating 4017 runs at an average of close to 40. The southpaw also has 338 wickets to his name in the format at an average of 25.25.

The 36-year-old all-rounder has been a cornerstone for the Indian cricket team for over decades now and will be expected to play a telling role in Rajasthan Royals’ 2026 Indian Premier League campaign after a high-profile homecoming.

Jadeja was part of the Royal’s iconic first batch, which won the inaugural IPL title in 2008 under the captaincy of Shane Warne. He was also with the team for the 2009 season.

After a stint with Kochi Taskers in IPL 2011, Jadeja joined Chennai Super Kings in 2012 and went on to win multiple IPL titles with CSK.

He is returning to the Royals after 17 long years in a trade move, which also sees Sanju Samson go the other way.

“Rajasthan Royals gave me my first platform and my first taste of victory,” said Ravindra Jadeja after the move was announced. “Coming back feels special – it’s not just a team for me, it’s home. Rajasthan Royals is where I won my first IPL, and I hope to win more with this current group of players.”
