Kemar Roofe: Walsall sign former Leeds and Rangers striker until January

League Two leaders Walsall have added former Leeds United and Rangers striker Kemar Roofe on a short-term deal until January.

The 32-year-old joins the Saddlers as a free agent having left Derby County in the summer after making only three appearances in the second half of last season.

The Walsall-born forward began is career with West Bromwich Albion and has had spells with Northampton, Cheltenham and Oxford before joining Leeds in July 2016.

After three seasons at Elland Road he moved to Belgian top-flight side Anderlecht for a year before joining Scottish giants Rangers, where he scored 26 goals in 33 league games.

“I’m really happy to have signed for Walsall,” Roofe said.

“It’s my hometown club so it means that little bit more to me. I spoke with the gaffer [Mat Sadler] at length and he’s given me lots of confidence.

“He’s told me to bring what I usually do with my quality and experience and help the team push forward.”

Roofe goes straight into the Walsall squad for Saturday’s game against Colchester United.
