Sneijder: Real Madrid did well not to sign Haaland

Former Real Madrid midfielder Wesley Sneijder has praised the club’s decision not to sign Erling Haaland, saying the Norwegian forward would not have been the right fit for a team now led by Kylian Mbappe.
“I think Real Madrid did a great job not signing Haaland. There was a moment when they still believed they could put Mbappe on the left with Haaland as a centre-forward, but I think the current way is much better, because for me Mbappe has become a real striker.”
“The way he positions himself as a striker is very unique and I believe he is much better now as a centre-forward than on the left wing, so it no longer makes sense to sign Haaland. This is good news for Manchester City,” Sneijder initially said.
The Dutchman also pointed to the next generation of world stars, naming players who, according to him, could dominate the football scene following the retirement of Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland
“When Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo retire, then people will start talking more about Mbappe, Vinicius and Lamine Yamal, just like we talk about Ronaldo and Messi now.”
“It’s all a matter of generations. When Diego Maradona retired, other players came. In 100 years, people won’t talk about Mbappe, Vinicius or Yamal in the same way.”
“There will be a new generation that has replaced them, but when they retire, we will start talking about Mbappe, Yamal and Vinicius the same way we talk about Ronaldo and Messi,” he concluded.Telegraph/
