Next year, the United States is set to celebrate a major milestone: 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Historian and biographer Walter Isaacson joins TODAY to discuss his new book, “The Greatest Sentence Ever Written,” which hones in on the document’s most famous words. He opens up about why he wanted to step back in history 250 years and explore what the words written back then mean for Americans today. “You see balance in that sentence. It lays the groundwork for two great things in America…the notion we have common ground…and the American dream,” he says.
