Why Jessica Jones Returns in Daredevil: Born Again Revealed

Producers behind Daredevil: Born Again addressed one of the show’s most discussed character questions ahead of Season 2’s rollout. The creative team explained why Jessica Jones returns for the new chapter and clarified the personal motive driving her reappearance.

Charlie Cox’s return in Daredevil: Born Again set up a renewed confrontation with Wilson Fisk. Season 2 moved forward with what producer Sana Amanat described in the Empire interview as “total freedom.”
Amanat said, “The landscape was open, and that was so liberating. We were like, ‘We can do whatever we want.’” The season follows Matt Murdock as he recovers from taking a bullet for Fisk while starting to build what Amanat called a “vigilante army.”
In the same Empire interview, Amanat explained that Fisk is now the Mayor of New York City and “at the height of his powers.” She said he is pursuing his “Safer Streets Initiative” to suppress masked vigilantes.
She asked, “What does it mean for Fisk when he’s gotten everything he wants?” before adding, “When you give a person whose thirst cannot be quenched his most valued treasure, is it enough? Or does he squeeze his treasure too hard?” These developments follow the first season’s retooling from an earlier case-of-the-week procedural format.
Krysten Ritter returns as Jessica Jones, stepping into the conflict with a specific motivation. Amanat stated, “[Jones] isn’t necessarily a team-up kind of person. So the reason she’s back is because it feels like it’s very personal.” She also said that Jones “brings edginess and lightness — Daredevil can be very dark and dramatic, and she cuts through the BS in a really fun way.” Her inclusion marks a direct personal link to the storyline unfolding between Matt and Fisk.
Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 pushes the escalating battle for Hell’s Kitchen forward. Disney Plus will debut the season in March 2026.
