There’s rarely been a story or a headline about Ariana Grande and Ethan Slater that didn’t involve a little speculation that they’re about to break up, probably going to break up, have already broken up, or that Grande and Cynthia Erivo are dating instead. This story will not be any different.
Despite recent speculation that Grande and Slater have split, at least two tabloids report that, nope, they’re still together. Honestly, at this point, I’d stay in it solely out of spite toward the public.
“Ariana and Ethan are still a couple but they’ve seen the chatter online and it’s not been easy,” a source told The Sun this week. They don’t have to do anything for anyone, obviously, but the fact that they rarely stand together for photos doesn’t really help their case. Rumors swirled again this week because they did not stand next to each other during the Wicked: For Good premiere in London on Monday.
But also, we’ve been through this press cycle once before, and I imagine it’d take literal magic and some type of industrial claw machine to get Grande and Erivo to separate for more than 10 seconds.
“Obviously, it fuels the speculation around them but they don’t want their relationship to play out in public,” the Sun’s source said about the somewhat awkward photo. “When Ariana left the after-party, she went back to her hotel suite. Not long after, Ethan was taken there and went up to see Ariana to spend time with her.” We don’t know who this source is, but “went up to see and spend time with her” is a weirdly formal way to describe hanging out with your girlfriend of three years, right?
TMZ also reported all is well on Tuesday, writing, “However, multiple witnesses at the premiere tell us they saw the two holding hands and being affectionate backstage. Our sources assure us everything’s great between them, and despite busy work schedules, they always make time for each other.” Phew, I can finally sleep tonight.
The couple broke the internet a little bit when they were first reported together in 2023. That summer, they both separated from their partners; Grande finalized her divorce from Dalton Gomez in October of that year, and Slater finalized his divorce from his wife of five years in September 2024.
Wicked: For Good premieres November 21, so I guess we’ll see where these two are at in 2026. I still think she and Erivo should just date.
