The Chase’s Paul Sinha was “angry” after he suffered a major blunder on the quiz show. Viewers were shocked when The Sinnerman ran out of time while answering a question. While The Chase contestants often miss their chance at answering a question, it is very unusual for The Chaser’s to run out of time on the clock.
In a recent instalment of the ITV quiz programme, The Sinnerman went up against four fresh contestants. Marrick was first to test his luck against The Chaser. After accumulating £6,000 in the quick-fire Cash Builder round, he went up against The Sinnerman in a difficult head-to-head game.
As The Chaser breezed through the questions, Marrick found himself caught in a one-question shoot-out. But luck was on his side when The Sinnerman failed to select his answer before the timer ran out.
Bradley Walsh asked the question: “Which Disney princess has been played twice on screen by Elle Fanning?” The options were Aurora, Cinderella and Snow White.
Merrick was quick to select Cinderella, but The Chaser missed his opportunity to choose his response. Bradley Walsh said: “The Chaser is out of time.”
The correct answer was revealed to be Aurora, meaning Merrick had got the question wrong. However, he wasn’t eliminiated from the game because Paul Sinha didn’t choose an answer.
Brad asked The Sinnerman: “Now then what would you have put?” Visibilly frustrated, The Chaser said: “Aurora.”

The ITV host turned to Merrick and said: “You’d have been out had he been on time. But you did it quickly enough to put him under pressure.” He added: “It was a pressure press it’s good, that’s the way it should be played.”
After a difficult game, Merrick managed to secure the first spot in the final, kickstarting the shared cash prize pot. Bradley told the quizzer: “You’ve got through with your speed and agility. The Chaser will be furious.”
He steered away from usual gameplay to speak to The Chaser after his blunder. Brad said: “I don’t normally go to The Chaser now because we don’t know enough about the team, but I’m revelling in this.”
He asked Paul: “Out of time?” The Chaser said: “Yeah it happens. very annoying for me.” He told the quiz host: “I’m angry on many levels at the moment Brad.” He added “Bad start to the game.”
The Chase viewers were also shocked by The Sinnerman’s mistake, with some questioning if that has ever happened before. Taking to social media during the episode, one viewer said: “Paul Sinha’s out of time?”
A second said: “The Chaser did not push his button in time!” while a third added: “Wow, you don’t see that very often.” Another asked: “Has a chaser ever been out of time before?”
The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm on ITV1 and ITVX
