Landman’s Billy Bob Thornton reveals star that is ‘nothing like’ their character

Landman star Billy Bob Thornton is back on our screens for season 2 of the hit Paramount Plus show and has given some interesting insights into his fellow cast members.

The Taylor Sheridan show, which sees Thornton star as oil company crisis manager Tommy Norris, boasts a star-studded cast who deliver some truly memorable performances.

Ali Larter portrays Tommy’s volatile but kind-hearted ex-wife Angela, while Michelle Randolph plays his image-obsessed daughter Ainsley and Jacob Lofland stars as his quietly determined son Cooper.

Other cast members include Jon Hamm as M-Tex Oil boss Monty Miller, Demi Moore as his wife Cami Miller and Kayla Wallace as no-nonsense lawyer Rebecca Falcone.

In an exclusive interview, Thornton revealed which cast member most resembles their character and who is most far removed from the role they play.

He explained: “Well you know, Taylor wrote [Landman] for me and mine and my boys. So I’d say I’m the most similar to my character.

“And the most different from their character? I would have to say Michelle Randolph. She would never say that stuff in real life!”

Thornton also suggested Wallace was also worlds away from the prickly Rebecca, saying: “Kayla Wallace who plays her – she’s such a sweet person.

“It’s hard sometimes […] any time I had to say mean things to Kayla or she had to say them to me… I mean she’s Canadian, so she had to apologise after saying stuff like, ‘Are you ok?’”

Revealing things will mellow between Tommy and Rebecca in season 2, he added: “The relationship does soften up some, but we still do have our sparring matches.”

Elsewhere in the interview, the actor discussed how Tommy’s relationship with his children will be explored more in season 2.

He revealed: “There’s absolutely more stuff with Cooper. I mean, the first season is honestly just us either ignoring each other or getting in an argument over something.

“This year there’s some of that, but you will get to see how much Tommy loves his kid and his ex wife/wife.”

Speaking more generally about the second instalment of the show, which is set in the boomtowns of West Texas, he added: “In terms of characters, you’re going to see a lot more this season of the family dynamic and what’s really at the core of each person.

“Because in the first season, you had Taylor setting up the oil business. We had to explain the oil business, introduce all the characters and all the players in it. And now the audience knows this, so we really get to dive deep.”

Landman season 2 airs weekly on Sundays on Paramount Plus.
