Aston Villa star John McGinn faces a crucial World Cup qualifying match with Scotland against Denmark on Tuesday night.

Scotland currently sits second in Group C, with McGinn‘s nation needing a win over Denmark to gain automatic qualification for the 2026 World Cup.

McGinn recently signed a contract extension at Villa in reward for his continued service to Unai Emery‘s side over the years.

There has been controversy surrounding Morgan Rogers’ England spot for the forthcoming World Cup, but McGinn is one of the first names on Steve Clarke’s team sheet for Scotland.

However, Jeff Stelling and an Aston Villa fan were in disagreement over a peculiar topic regarding the Scottish midfielder.

Jeff Stelling would love to see Aston Villa’s John McGinn at a World Cup final

McGinn’s contribution for Aston Villa has been praised, as the Villans’ captain keeps setting the example through his performances and work ethic.

Emery will be keeping a close eye on how the midfield powerhouse fairs against Denmark, and will be hoping he comes back to B6 unscathed.

Ahead of the showdown, Stelling was talking to a Villa fan live on talkSPORT, and claimed he’d love to see McGinn in a World Cup final.

However, Villa fan Kurt thinks Scotland and McGinn will struggle, and strangely backs Denmark for the win.

Kurt claimed: “I hope McGinn scores, but I’ll be cheering on Denmark.”

Stelling said: “I would love to see John McGinn in a World Cup final. Come on, as a Villa fan, in your heart, Kurt, you have to hope so yourself.

Kurt replied: “It would be great, but Rasmus Hojilund will deny him, I think. Come on, Denmark.

Stelling then replied: “I think Hojilund was one of those affected by a sickness bug at the weekend, and speculation says he may not make it this evening either.

How can McGinn reach the World Cup if Scotland fail to win?

Scotland simply have to win for the Villa star to reach North America last year, with Denmark only in need of a draw.

McGinn will be dreaming of taking Scotland to the World Cup, but even if they don’t beat Denmark, he could still make it.

Scotland are four points clear of Greece, who are in second, meaning even if McGinn’s nation lost, they would still progress to the play-off spots.

If they lose or draw to Denmark, the Villa man will need to win a play-off semi-final and final to qualify for next year’s prestigious World Cup tournament.

Villa fans should be getting behind their skipper ahead of the pivotal clash.
