Duursma enters the AFL as one of the most highly touted prospects in recent years, bringing elite athleticism and versatility.
The youngest member of the famous Duursma football family, Willem follows in the footsteps of siblings Xavier, Zane, and Yasmin, but has carved out his own reputation as a dynamic player capable of impacting all areas of the ground.
A standout performer at the 2025 AFL Under-18s National Championships, Duursma claimed Vic Country’s MVP award and earned All-Australian honours, underlining his ability to dominate at the highest junior level.
Duursma captained the Coates Talent League Team of the Year, finished runner-up in the Morrish Medal, and made his VFL debut with Casey Demons, showcasing his readiness for senior football.
Known for his aerial ability, endurance, and clean ball use, Duursma averaged big numbers across the Talent League and championships, often playing as a rebounding defender before transitioning into the midfield late in the season. His ability to win contested ball, break lines, and push forward makes him a genuine game-changer.
“Everyone knows the Duursma name, there are already three in the AFL and AFLW system, and Willem is the last of the family to come through,” Head of List Management and Recruiting Matt Clarke said.
“His versatility is a big part of why we really like him. He’s played just about every role on the ground this year across multiple teams, whether it’s been for Vic Country, the AFL Academy, or stepping up to senior footy with Casey in the VFL.
“Willem can play inside and outside, he’s strong in the air, a good kick, and has great running power and speed.
“He’s developed real consistency from the early rounds of the year at every level he’s played, which makes him a really exciting prospect.”
