Leeds United willing to ‘listen to offers’ for big PSR profit, but fans won’t be happy

Leeds United’s issue with the January window approaching is that the club needs reinforcements in the final third, but PSR will prevent spending. Well, Leeds have an answer for that.
But Leeds fans won’t like it. As things stand, Leeds have managed just nine Premier League goals in 11 so far, with Dominic Calvert-Lewin missing chances and currently boasting a single solitary league effort.
While Calvert-Lewin is failing to find the back of the net, Leeds are also lacking creativity. There is a need for not just a striker to save the club from relegation, but a player who can provide a link to the strikers.
Robbie Evans on Leeds United’s PSR position:
“This summer, we spent everything we could. Unequivocally, we are maxing PSR out this season. If we had gone on to other targets [on deadline day], the consequences would have been seen in the current roster. More key players from last season would have had to go.”
Leeds obviously missed out on Harry Wilson and Facundo Buonanotte in the final days of the summer window, and the feeling is that kind of player could unlock Calvert-Lewin. But PSR will stop the Whites.
Robbie Evans has already made it clear that Leeds have maxed out PSR, and any new signings will see Leeds go beyond that line. Unless of course, Leeds sell a player for PSR profit – and that is an option.

Leeds willing to listen to offers for Willy Gnonto in January
In the summer, it was reported that Leeds had identified both Pascal Struijk and Willy Gnonto as possible sales if the club required PSR profit. Struijk joined for a tiny fee as a teenager from Ajax back in 2018.
Meanwhile, Gnonto joined from Zurich for less than £4m in the summer of 2022. Now, TeamTalk claim Leeds are willing to listen to offers for Gnonto, with a fee likely to be a whole lot higher than just £4m.

Especially, because player amortisation means Gnonto will be three and a half years into the five-year deal he signed when joining for £3.8m. Anything above £1.14m will be profit when it comes to Gnonto.
For example, if Leeds manage to rake in £15m for Gnonto, almost £13.9m of that will be deemed profit in the eyes of PSR and allow Leeds to spend that figure without stepping over the PSR limit in January.
What transfer expert Dean Jones said about Gnonto’s future
TeamTalk not only say that Leeds are willing to listen to offers for 13-time Italy star Gnonto, but they include quotes from transfer expert Dean Jones in their article. Jones thinks Leeds are considering it.
“This is going to be a transfer window of opportunism and there are clubs who have been tracking Gnonto, wondering if he is finally going to leave. I expect someone to try their luck,” Jones reports.
Which position do Leeds United need to strengthen most in January?
“I have a feeling the player will have his head turned if a big enough side comes in for him. Leeds would sell him at the right price, I’m pretty sure of that,” Jones added, with Gnonto fit again after injury.
LeedsUnited.News understands that Italian clubs are eyeing Gnonto, but any sale of the Leeds winger will incur the wrath from fans, with Gnonto well-liked. The situation is an issue for Leeds, though.
