The government of the Northwest Territories says a test of N.W.T. Alert, the territory’s public alert system, has been scheduled for Wednesday afternoon.

The test is planned for 1:55 p.m. MT and will show up on wireless devices, cable networks and radio stations across the territory. Similar tests will also be carried out in each province and other territories on the same day.

The territory said N.W.T. Alert is part of the Alert Ready system, part of a network of federal, provincial and territorial emergency management organizations, Environment Canada and broadcasters.

It is meant to keep residents and visitors informed in the event of an emergency.
