Donal Skehan’s sons bring sweet gift to dad in hospital after he is ‘rushed into A&E’

Donal Skehan faced a difficult start to his week when he rushed into A&E after experiencing painful symptoms on Sunday.
The celebrity chef was preparing a family meal for ten when he fell ill, with his pain getting progressively worse before he made the decision to head to the hospital on Monday morning.

Donal, who shares two boys with his Swedish wife Sofie, shared the health update with his followers on social media after showcasing the impressive Sunday lunch he had made the day before, complete with a delicious sticky toffee pudding.
The doting dad to Noah, seven, and Oliver, five, snapped a photo of himself in hospital attached to a monitor, and captioned it: ‘A delightful start to the week – rushed into A&E this morning’.

Later, Donal revealed that he needed to spend the night in hospital for an operation after doctors found that he was suffering from appendicitis.
He explained: ‘Cooked Sunday family lunch for 10 and noticed a pain which got worse and worse! Thankful to have caught it early. I hope it wasn’t the sticky toffee pud! On the mend- thanks for the lovely messages.’

To cheer him up, his sons brought along some adorable handmade cards for their dad during a family visit, decorated with hearts, adorable drawings and a message which read: ‘Papa hope you feel better soon. Love Noah’.
Donal gushed: ‘Very cute cards from the little guys’, before adding: ‘Thanks for the messages – in for the night for an [operation] unfortunately but all well’.
Well I’ve now learned all I need to know about the appendix and appendicitis. The last 24 hours have been non stop. Had the [operation] last night to have it removed – Massive thanks to the amazing team at [the Mater Hospital] – The brilliant doctors, surgeons, nurses [and] porters.
Absolute heroes, so amazing with all the patients and different cases. So much respect for what they do’.

Sharing an insight into his hospital stay, the cookbook writer and chef gave his breakfast a glowing review, writing: ‘Having not eaten since Sunday night this is right up there as one of the best breakfasts ever!’
