Kellie Sloane is set to become leader of the NSW Liberal opposition after Mark Speakman quit to avoid moves by his own moderate faction to blast him out for failing to land enough blows against the Labor government.
Speakman announced his resignation on Thursday afternoon after factional leaders delivered him an ultimatum – go or face a spill motion that he looked likely to lose.
