Adam Sandler Feels “Guilty” About Cursing in Front of Daughters During Stand-Up Shows

During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, Adam Sandler opened up about the unique challenges he faces as a father who also performs stand-up comedy. The 59-year-old comedian shared his feelings of guilt and awkwardness when his daughters, Sadie and Sunny, attend his shows.

Recalling a performance in Las Vegas coinciding with Sunny’s birthday, Sandler admitted to feeling the pressure of entertaining while maintaining a level of appropriateness for his daughters, aged 19 and 17. The comedian, known for his raunchy humor, said, “I’m very filthy… I feel guilty because I shouldn’t have done it, but I do it and I continue to do it.”

Sandler humorously described the situation, saying his daughters reacted with confusion to his stage persona, jokingly recalling their response: “‘Who is that guy? That’s a fake guy, that’s a stand-up comedian guy.’ You get the real daddy at home.” This prompted him to alter his setlist on November 1 during a show at Fontainebleau, where he aimed to keep things clean “out of respect for the kids and their friends.”

Despite his efforts, he revealed that Sunny and her friends left shortly after the show started, seeking dessert instead, which he found comically justifiable given his occasional use of profanities. He expressed relief, stating, “I did curse a few times and there were things that I was going to have to explain.”

Sandler, who has been on a two-month tour titled “You’re My Best Friend,” is also gearing up for the premiere of his new film, a Netflix project titled Jay Kelly, co-starring George Clooney. In this movie, Sandler plays the role of Ron Suzenick, who serves as the friend and manager of Clooney’s character, an A-list actor grappling with an existential crisis.

Reflecting on his family dynamic, Sandler proudly acknowledged his daughters’ evolving interests in performance, emphasizing that they work hard and attend school to pursue their passions. He shared, “It’s always been our thing to work with our friends and family. It’s cool to see [my kids] getting better.”

Overall, Sandler’s candid revelations during his late-night appearance highlight the balancing act many parents face between their professional identities and family responsibilities.
