Feel that chill? It’s not just the weather.

“The Conjuring: Last Rites,” the fourth installment of the popular “Conjuring” franchise, hits streaming this week with paranormal investigators Ed (Patrick Wilson) and Lorraine Warren (Vera Farmiga) returning for one last turn to defeat the evil spirits and demonic presence spawned from a cursed mirror and save a Pennsylvania family in a story based on the real-life Smurl haunting case. And it’s not just Ed and Lorraine who have to deal with the supernatural threat: their daughter Judy (Mia Tomlinson) and her fiancé Tony (Ben Hardy) also become involved in the demonic affair.

From the first film in 2013, the “Conjuring” movies proved immensely popular with mainstream movie fans and sparked a cinematic universe based on the Warrens’ most infamous cases.

The new film shattered records during its theatrical release, becoming “the largest global opening for a horror film and cementing ‘The Conjuring’ as the highest-grossing horror franchise of all time,” HBO Max said.
