The Queensland Bulls will gear up for a rare day/night pink ball Sheffield Shield match at the Gabba from tomorrow, taking on competition front-runners Victoria.
Leg-spinner Mitchell Swepson will captain the side for the first time this season, with Marnus Labuschagne on Test duties.
Gold Coast batter Hugo Burdon comes into the squad for the first time this summer, with the Bulls squad member coming off the back of centuries in two Toyota Second XI matches.
Burdon, who captains the Second XI, made his first class debut for Queensland last season.
Young Western Suburbs paceman Sam Geyer has earned a spot in the squad for the first time.
Geyer, 22, has overcome stress fractures in his back during his teenage years where he played largely as a batter in a variety of competitions including Warehouse Cricket, Premier Cricket and the Gold Coast competition.
His ‘have bat, will travel’ approach in his formative years has paid off, scoring a superb 145 not out for Wests against University of Queensland earlier this month.
Batting at five, he dashed to a career-high score, complementing his eye-catching efforts with the ball so far that has seen him lead the wicket-taking list with 21 at 17 for the Bulldogs in one-day and two-day cricket.
He also made his Toyota Second XI debut earlier this season and took four wickets against NSW in Queensland’s outright win in Sydney recently.
Pace bowler Tom Straker comes into the side with Michael Neser absent on national duties with the Australian Test squad in Perth.
