Ohio State football defensive starter leaves Rutgers game with injury

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s Lorenzo Styles left Saturday’s game vs. Rutgers after suffering an injury in the second quarter.

Styles made a second-down tackle on Rutgers tight end Kenny Fletcher. The starting defensive back stayed down on the field after the play before walking to OSU’s medical tent with an apparent upper-body injury.

He later emerged from the tent and didn’t have his helmet on while OSU’s defense was on the field.

Saturday’s game marked Styles’ seventh start of the season. Prior to the contest, he was honored alongside his brother, OSU linebacker Sonny Styles, as part of Senior Day festivities.

Entering Saturday, Lorenzo had 25 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss on the season. He’s also made an impact on special teams, highlighted by a kickoff he returned for a touchdown last week vs. UCLA.

Lorenzo missed games vs. Illinois and Wisconsin earlier this season due to injury, though he was available against the Badgers if needed.

The Buckeyes have one regular season game remaining (at Michigan on Nov. 29) before the postseason. Ohio State is currently on pace to face Indiana in the Big Ten Championship Game on Dec. 6 before the College Football Playoff.
