A Canada-wide recall has been issued for thousands of laser pointers sold online over concerns that they could cause serious injury.
On Wednesday, Nov. 19, Health Canada issued a recall for the Gniby Rechargeable Green Powerful Tactical Flashlight with Adjustable Focus, Green Laser Pointer due to an “injury hazard.”
After testing, Health Canada announced that it had determined that the product is classified as a Class 3B handheld portable laser, which could pose a danger to human health or safety.
“Use of Class 3B handheld portable lasers presents an increased risk to consumers of permanent eye injury. Injuries result from the laser beam being directed in the eyes, even from short unintentional exposure,” reads the statement.
The affected product is a lithium-ion battery-powered handheld laser with a black housing sold on Amazon.ca under ASIN #B0CJ8RSS56.
As of Nov. 19, no injuries or incidents related to the product have been reported; however, Canadians are urged to report any related health or safety incidents by filling out the Consumer Product Incident Report Form.
Canadians who own the product are urged to “immediately stop using the affected product and safely dispose of it in accordance with municipal electronic waste requirements.”
The laser pointer has since been pulled from Amazon. A total of 14,744 units of the affected product were sold in Canada between January 2024 and November 2025.
According to Health Canada, it has contacted the foreign company selling the product, but it has been “unresponsive to requests to voluntarily recall.”
