Badgers finish in 26th at National Championship

COLOMBIA, Mo. – The Wisconsin women’s cross country finished in 26th place at the NCAA National Championship. Kylie Finger led the Badgers, finishing 100th overall and clocking a new personal best, covering the 6k course in 19 minutes, 57.4 seconds. Finger was able to jump from 109th to 100th in the last kilometer.
Leane Willemse trailed Finger, finishing second for UW and 141st overall with a time of 20:10.8, her season best. Graduate student Mya Bunke finished her career, achieving her personal best, 20:17.6, coming in 157th place.
Bella Jacobsen was the fourth Badger to cross the finish line at 20:19.8. Rounding out the Wisconsin scorers, Nora Gremban topped her personal best from regionals, finished in 187th, running the course in 20:27.6
NC State won the national Championship, with 92 points, followed by BYU with 140 points. Alabama’s Doris Lemngole is the individual national champion, dominating the course in 18:25.4 She was followed by BYU freshman Jane Hedengren, crossing the line at 18:38.9. The 13.5 second spread between first and second is the largest winning margin since 2007.
