Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers (left wrist) inactive vs. Bears; Mason Rudolph to start

Aaron Rodgers won’t be able to renew an old rivalry after all.

Rodgers’ left wrist injury will hold him out of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game Sunday against the Chicago Bears, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Sunday.

Steelers coach Mike Tomlin confirmed the news to CBS Sports’ Evan Washburn.

“I’ll provide you with complete clarity: He’s not going to play today,” Tomlin said. “He fought his tail off all week, but that’s the prudent play to make for us as a collective. So he won’t be playing this week.”

Veteran backup Mason Rudolph will start in Rodgers’ place, while rookie Will Howard will serve as his backup. Rodgers is officially inactive.

Rodgers, who suffered a fractured wrist in the Steelers’ Week 11 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, missed Wednesday’s practice and was limited during the following two sessions.

Now, he’ll miss a chance to play against the Bears for the first time in his career without being a member of the Green Bay Packers.
