Chris Jones says Bo Nix knew Chiefs’ call on crucial play of game-winning drive

Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix made all the right plays on the final drive of the game against the Kansas City Chiefs. The biggest play of the drive came on a third-and-15 from the Denver 20 yard line.
Nix had all day to throw the ball before scrambling to the far side of the field and delivering a 20-yard strike to Courtland Sutton to keep the drive alive. Nix didn’t just make the play with his arm and legs. According to Chiefs defensive star Chris Jones, Nix made the play happen with his mind, too.
“They called it out (the defense),” said Jones in his postgame media availability. “I heard them calling it out. They actually switched the line. You can see on the film, Bo Nix kinda switched the line. So they knew it.”
In the clip below, you can see Nix recognize and shift tight end Evan Engram.
Part of why coach Sean Payton came to the recognition that Nix would be his quarterback was because of his cerebral abilities. Nix has shown he can make plays on the field when he needs to most. However, this play alone should show fans and opponents that Nix isn’t sleeping on recognizing defenses and putting in the protections and placement of his teammates to succeed best. Nix kept the drive alive, and Denver went down to kick the game-winning field goal at the buzzer.
