The Buffalo Sabres have placed goaltender Alexandar Georgiev on unconditional waivers for the purpose of contract termination, AHL affiliate Rochester Americans confirmed on Sunday.
Georgiev, 29, signed a one-year, $825,000 deal to join the Sabres in the off-season but never appeared for the team. He went 0-2-0 in the AHL with a 3.57 goals-against average and an .896 save percentage this season.

The 6-foot-1 goaltender finished last season with the San Jose Sharks after he, along with forward Nikolai Kovalenko, and two draft picks, were acquired from the Colorado Avalanche in exchange for netminder Mackenzie Blackwood, forward Givani Smith, and a draft pick on Dec. 9.
He had a 15-26-4 record with a 3.71 goals-against average and .875 save percentage split between the Avalanche and Sharks.
Georgiev was within the top two in the NHL in wins prior to last season, recording 40 wins in 2022-23 and 38 wins in 2023-24 while a member of the Avalanche.
Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the New York Rangers in 2017, Georgiev has a career 151-108-26 record with a .903 save percentage and 2.99 GAA split between the Rangers, Avalanche, and Sharks.
A native of Ruse, Bulgaria, Georgiev represents Russia on the international stage and has a bronze medal from the 2019 World Championship.
