Collin Gillespie, Jordan Goodwin shine as Suns best Spurs for 3rd straight win

Jordan Goodwin registered a double-double in his first start of the season and Collin Gillespie had another productive night as the Phoenix Suns beat the San Antonio Spurs 111-102 on Sunday.
Goodwin, who started in place of Ryan Dunn, had a productive night with 15 points on 7 of 15 shooting, three assists and grabbed 10 rebounds in 32 minutes played.
Goodwin not only made his first start this season, but the scrappy guard also never started when he was with the Suns for 40 games in 2023-24.
Gillespie, who made the game-winning shot in Friday night’s eventful win against the Minnesota Timberwolves, excelled in an expanded role on Sunday, scoring 15 points in 29 minutes played.
Dillon Brooks led the Suns with 25 points, two assists and three rebounds in the win.
The Spurs were without several players, including Victor Wembanyama and Stephon Castle.
De’Aaron Fox led the Spurs with 26 points, but only shot 5 of 11 from the field as he scored 14 from the free throw line. Goodwin handled the matchup for much of the game, replacing the defense of Dunn in the starting lineup
The Suns (11-6) won despite getting off to a slow start as Phoenix trailed 56-49 at half. The Suns managed to outscore the Spurs 62-46 in the second half to secure their third straight win.
Suns’ next game
The Suns will finish their three-game homestand on Monday against the Houston Rockets.
Former Sun Kevin Durant will not play due to a “family matter.”
Tip-off for Suns-Rockets is at 7:30 p.m. and can be listened to on 98.7 and the Arizona Sports app.
