TAMUNING, Guam (GEDA) — Seven Palau-based businesses were in Guam last week as part of a Palau Inbound Trade Mission hosted by the Guam Economic Development Authority and in partnership with the Western United States Agricultural Trade Association or WUSATA to provide opportunities for Guam businesses to explore potential export opportunities in Palau.
WUSATA is a non-profit state trade regional trade group that promotes the export of U.S. food and agricultural products throughout the world from the western region of the country, including Guam.
“We welcome this growing partnership between our local businesses and the businesses from Palau to share our culture and Guam-made products to the region,” said Gov. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero. “I want to commend GEDA for continuing to be at the forefront of supporting our small businesses and ensuring they have the resources and opportunities to expand internationally.”
“Our Administration is committed to supporting our small businesses expand to international markets,” said Lt. Gov. Joshua A. Tenorio. “I look forward to the deals and partnerships made from the trade mission.”
The trade mission included site visits for the Palau business delegation to meet with Guam businesses in an effort to establish potential buyer-supplier relationships. Participating Guam companies included Asiga, Denanche’ Guam, Everything Guam, Kingfisher’s Noni, Local Jerk Guam, Natural Being, The Coconut Tree Company, and The Green Turtle Coffee. The Palau business delegation also participated in the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association’s membership luncheon that included a product showcase for Guam businesses and a chef demo incorporating some of the Guam food products into the menu.
“The visit from the Palau business delegation shows the continued and growing interest they have for our Guam-made products and a result of the conversations we’ve started from previous trade missions to Palau,” said Christina D. Garcia, CEO/administrator for GEDA. “We are also thankful once again for our partnership with the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association to help showcase our locally made products not just locally, but to the region.”
The Palau business delegation included Surangel and Sons Supercenter and Department Store, Stay Salty Palau, Long Beach Café, Driftwood Café & Bar, Baby Co. & Shop, and GnZ Café. The delegation was led by Alessa Aguon of Concierge Palau, who has worked with GEDA to organize trade missions to Palau in the past few years.
“I am excited to once again partner with GEDA to facilitate business ties between our communities and having it in Guam this time so we can see the facilities where products are being made,” said Aguon. “This is only the beginning. We hope to be back again, Guam.”
