Massive bank closures in the United States this week: Full list of banks closing on November 27

Several major banks will shut all their branches across the United States on Thursday, November 27, including Bank of America, Chase, Citibank and Wells Fargo. They will remain closed all day as they observe the Thanksgiving Day holiday.

Financial institutions typically follow the Federal Reserve’s holiday calendar, which covers the 11 official federal holidays, from New Year’s Day – the first of the year – through Christmas Day, the final one. On these dates, banks close and give employees the day off.

The banks closing on Thursday, November 27 for Thanksgiving include most major institutions, among them Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citibank, U.S. Bank, SunTrust Bank, Morgan Stanley, Truist Bank, PNC Bank, Capital One, Citizens Bank, Santander Bank and Compass.

Although most banks will close for Thanksgiving, online banking services and ATMs will remain available throughout the holiday. Branches will resume in-person service on Friday, November 28, which coincides with the start of Black Friday.

Other businesses closing in Thanksgiving 2025

Because Thanksgiving is one of the 11 official federal holidays, all federal government offices must shut down. Along with banks, schools, post offices, public libraries and the stock market also close.

On Thanksgiving, many major supermarkets and retailers operate on reduced hours or shut their doors altogether. This year, Walmart, Costco and Target have all confirmed they will close. Some restaurants stay open and offer special holiday menus, though others reduce their hours or close, including Chipotle, Chick-fil-A, Taco Bell, Shake Shack, Cheesecake Factory and some Subway locations.

Beyond the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday on Thursday, November 27, most banks nationwide will also close for Christmas Day on December 25, the final federal holiday of 2025. Looking ahead to 2026, banks will again close for all 11 official federal holidays.
