Urgent product recall issued for Christmas treat

Three Christmas treats have been urgently recalled due to a potentially fatal nut allergy risk. Three flapjacks from Flapjackerry contain almonds, but this is not mentioned on the label, which could cause customers with nut allergies to experience anaphylactic shock if ingested.

The Food Standards Agency has issued an urgent product recall due to the “possible health risk for anyone with an allergy to almonds”. Customers with a nut allergy have been urged not to eat them and to return the flapjacks to the store of purchase for a full refund.

The three recalled products are:

  • 170g Flapjackery Mince Pie Crumble Flapjack, best before March 2026
  • 6x85g Flapjackery Christmas Towers box, best before March 2026
  • 6x170g Flapjackery Rudolph box Pack size, best before March 2026

The FSA stated that Flapjackery has contacted the relevant allergy support organisations, which will inform their members about the recall, and it has issued a point-of-sale notice to its customers.

There are 16 Flapjackery stores in locations across the South West, including Plymouth, St Ives and Bath.

In the UK, ‘Natasha’s Law’ mandated that pre-packed for direct sale (PPDS) food must be labelled with a full ingredients list from October 1, 2021. The 14 major allergens must be bolded, underlined, or otherwise emphasised on the label.

Named in memory of Natasha Ednan-Laperouse, the law was passed after a teenager tragically died in 2016 after consuming a pre-packaged sandwich that contained sesame seeds, which was not listed on the product’s label.

Food recalls are quite common, and the FSA will issue an allergy alert if there is a risk to consumers due to missing or incorrect labelling.
