Russell Crowe committed the ultimate relationship faux pas during a segment on KIIS FM’s Kyle & Jackie O Show this morning.
While chatting about his role in upcoming flick Nuremberg, co-host Kyle took the opportunity to ask how his lovers (past and present) enjoy seeing him in a role that requires a costume.
“I’ve always wondered, when you’ve got so many great characters under your belt and you’re in a loving relationship. Does the missus or anyone in the past ever said, ‘I’d love if you showed up as the Fox News chief tonight in the bedroom.’ Do you do the bedroom characters?” the shock jock asked.
While referencing his stunning performances in Gladiator and Master and Commander – both requiring an iconic kit – Russell was at first hesitant to answer.
“I’d be giving people away if I was to answer this fully, honestly,” he laughed nervously.
“That’s true. We’d just go back to the era of when it was and who you were seeing,” Jackie O chimed in.
“Just on a broad spectrum, have you ever dressed up for anyone, as a special character?” Kyle continued to push.
Russell then admitted to dressing up for ex-wife, Aussie actress and singer Danielle Spencer, whom he was married to between 2003 and 2018 and shares two sons with.
According to the Oscar winner, 61, Danielle grew particularly fond with Russell’s English navy costume in Master and Commander.
“There was one point when I was shooting Master and Commander and Danielle, we weren’t married at the time, but we were coming towards our marriage, it was 2002,” he recalled.
“We were shooting it, and she visited the set, and she was very much into the high pants and the English navy uniform, to the point where every now and then she’d call me Captain Stubing.”
It was the exact answer that Kyle was looking for.
“Oh! I like that. Love Boat reference. Very sexy,” he replied.
During a recent interview with 60 Minutes, Russell candidly admitted to not ever getting married again – despite being happy in his relationship with girlfriend, Britney Theriot, 33.
“All these reports keep coming out saying that Britney and I are engaged and I’m going to get married again. No, we are very good friends and we have a wonderful relationship,” the actor and film director shared.
“My life is so joyous and happy at the moment. Why would I ruin that with a wedding? Why would I go through [that]?” he told Karl Stefanovic on the program.
“I’ve been married once, you know, I know how it can go and where it can go. So, I don’t need to go to that place. Where’s the romance? Where’s the romance in you?”
