Daniel Brocklebank has sparked a demand following his exit from Coronation Street as he recently confirmed he’d filmed his final scenes.

The actor made his debut in the ITV soap towards the end of 2014 in the role of reformed vicar Billy Mayhew. In that time, he has seen his fair share of drama on the cobbles – particularly when it comes to matters of the heart and viewer were devastated when his husband, Paul Foreman, died last year.

While Billy is moving on with his life on the cobbles, it was revealed earlier this year that Daniel would be bowing out of the long-running show, after celebrating a decade in the role of Billy last December.

Daniel said in a statement in May: “I have been working on Corrie for a quarter of my life. I have adored every minute I have been in that building and have never not looked forward to going into work. I love everyone who works on this show and whilst I am sad to be going, I am equally excited to see what the future holds.”

With Corrie filming up to ten weeks in advance, it was last Tuesday (November 18) that Daniel confirmed he’d finished filming at the Trafford-based set for the last time. Sharing a selfie from the corridors of the Corrie building, a stone’s throw from Salford’s MediaCity, the soap star wrote on Instagram: “That’s it.

“Last scene filmed. Bye bye @coronationstreet. Bye bye Billy. The last 11 years have gone by in a blink. I’ve adored every moment of being part of this special family. I can’t thank @itv and all at Corrie enough. It’s been a ride. I adore you all.”

Since filming his exit, Daniel has been busy rehearsing for appearing in Young Frankenstein the Musical at the Liverpool Playhouse. In the Hope Mill Theatre’s production, Daniel will be taking on the role of Dr Fredrick Frankenstein.

The musical, which tells the story of the grandson of Victor Frankenstein who moves to Transylvania, has a five week run, running throughout the festive period from December 3, 2025, to January 3, 2026.

But it was a post about a previous role that got fans talking. Taking to Instagram, the soap star shared: “Happy #DoctorWhoDay. 62 years of brilliance. It’s been a privilege to take part in several Big Finish audio dramas over the years. Here I am as David Daniels in the wonderful @russelltdavies63 “Damaged Goods” alongside the glorious @michelledcollins & @denise_black_uk. Here’s to the Whoniverse!”

In response, Daniel’s partner Jordan Coulthard said: “Daniel Brocklebank for the next Doctor!” @chipchaseben replied: “You could be an amazing Doctor, Daniel.” @eimearpoodle_mom echoed: “Wouldn’t @danielbrocklebank be a brilliant doctor.” @queenie1806_ added: “@danielbrocklebank for the new Dr Who!”

It comes after Daniel spoke to The Mirror about being called into the production office in June and being told the news. “They said it was purely storyline-based, as is so often the case,” he said. “It felt absolutely right, so I was philosophical about it. It is just a job at the end of the day and there’s no character bigger than the show…”

And he had also thought about his exit. “I’d spoken to my other half and said ‘maybe it’s time,'” he said. “As an actor, I enjoy being challenged and I was very quiet in the last year there. After the Motor Neurone Disease storyline, which is probably the thing I’m most proud of, I wondered really what was left for Billy…”
