Police shoot man in Plymouth following domestic disturbance call

Plymouth police shoot man during domestic dispute

A man is in stable condition in the hospital after being shot by a Plymouth police officer.

The incident started at 4:37 a.m. Tuesday, when Plymouth police received a call about a domestic disturbance involving a man knocking on a window at Quinn at Plymouth Apartments, located off Quinwood Lane North just off Bass Lake Road.

“I came outside a little bit after 6:30 a.m. to get some stuff in the car, get my daughter off to school and that’s where I saw the police cars and everything,” said resident Christine Hontz. “I was very shocked. I knew it was serious.”

The department says an officer arrived and quickly confronted the man, who was armed with a handgun, in the parking lot. The officer then shot the man, although it wasn’t immediately clear what caused the officer to fire.

Officers provided first aid to the man, and he was taken to North Memorial Hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

The officer involved was not injured and will be put on standard critical incident leave, Plymouth police say.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating what led up to the shooting.

BCA agents and crime scene personnel are on scene of a use-of-force incident in Plymouth.

More information will be made available after the preliminary investigation is complete.
