Cooler and Drier Holiday Weekend Ahead

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – After highs in the 80s the past couple of days and a few strong storms yesterday, a cold front came through this morning, ushering in an air mass more on brand for the upcoming holiday weekend. After one more mild day today with highs in the lower 70s, temperatures will take a tumble for the next few days, getting us all in the holiday spirit for Thanksgiving.
The colder air mass will really start to be noticeable tonight as overnight lows will be mainly in the 30s areawide. With cold air advection continuing tomorrow with breezy northwest winds, afternoon highs will struggle to reach the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Friday and Saturday mornings will be the chilliest of this quick cold snap, with lows near or slightly below the freezing mark both days.
Both high school football playoffs on Friday night and the Iron Bowl at Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium on Saturday night will feature clear, dry, and cool conditions, with temperatures both evenings mainly in the 40s.
Clouds and moisture quickly return by Sunday, bringing a chance of rain and more mild conditions to start the first work week of December.
