Capitals celebrate Ovechkin’s milestones with unique fan gift

Fans who attend Wednesday’s game against the Winnipeg Jets will receive a giant Ovechkin face cut-out when they arrive at their seats.
According to a photo shared by Mike McIntyre of The Winnipeg Free Press, the cutouts feature a variety of headshots from over the course of Ovechkin’s historic NHL career.
The giveaway is part of a larger celebration for Ovechkin, who earlier this month played in his 1,500th game and became the first NHLer to score 900 goals. That celebration will include a 10-minute pre-game ceremony with Ovechkin’s family before puck drop. The ceremony will also feature eight local youth hockey players to show the vast influence Ovechkin’s career has had on the sport in the D.C. area.
Ovechkin scored his 900th goal on Nov. 5 against the St. Louis Blues, and he has since pushed the all-time record even higher, entering play Wednesday with 907 goals. He skated in his 1,500th game on Oct. 25, becoming only the eighth player to reach that milestone with one team.
You can watch the Capitals face the Jets as part of Wednesday Night Hockey on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ at 7 p.m. ET/ 4 p.m. PT.
