Netflix suffers major outage in US, several Indian users also report glitches

Netflix suffered a major outage in the United States on Wednesday evening, briefly knocking out streaming for thousands of users and triggering spillover glitches in India.
The disruption hit just as Stranger Things Season 5 Volume 1 went live, intensifying user frustration. Within minutes of the premiere, social media filled with complaints from viewers whose screens froze or apps crashed mid-play.
Downdetector, which compiles user reports from multiple sources, logged more than 8,000 problem reports in the US at the time of writing this article. Most cited streaming failures, while a sizeable share pointed to server-connection errors.
Even hundreds of users in India reported similar glitches during the same window.
According to Downdetector’s breakdown, 51 per cent of complaints were linked to streaming issues and 41 per cent to server problems. Netflix had not commented on the cause of the outage at the time of publication.
Many users shared screenshots of frozen frames, endless loading wheels, and apps that refused to open any title. The posts moved quickly across X, where fans linked the disruption to the Stranger Things premiere.
“Me staying up until 1am and then Netflix going down instantly,” a user wrote. “Waited all day to watch stranger things and now Netflix is down,” another user said.
“Netflix seems to be down for me Nooooooo,” another fan said. “I’m staying off this app until I finish the new Stranger Things episodes because I don’t want to risk seeing any spoilers,” a user wrote.
This is not the first time Stranger Things has strained the platform. In July 2022, when the final two episodes of Season 4 dropped, Netflix went down for a short period.
