Actor Chris Coghill – who found fame on EastEnders as paedophile Tony King – arrived as Robert Sugden’s mysterious prison husband Kev Townsend in September.
He was seen as a dangerous criminal who had saved Robert Sugden’s life in prison and the pair had grown close – even marrying.
When he arrived in the village he said he had just months to live and had been released on compassionate grounds.
Scheming Robert, who had reunited with ex Aaron Dingle in the meantime, decided to reunite with Kev in an effort to get his money once he died.

However it recently emerged that Kev isn’t dying and doesn’t in fact have millions in the bank.
Instead his dark side was exposed as he manipulated Robert into staying in prison with him in flashback scenes, and continued the behaviour now he’s out of prison.
But unexpectedly the dark character has become a hit with viewers with fans loving actor Chris’s portrayal.
And the news that Kev is Lewis Barton’s biological dad has seen him become a more central figure in the village – and bosses don’t want it to end.
A source said: “Chris originally signed up for a limited stint on the show as an antagonist for Robron with a mysterious link to the village but things have gone mad.
“Viewers absolutely love Kev. Bosses knew Chris would be popular because he’s a great actor but for Kev to have become so popular has definitely come as a big surprise.
“Chris has filmed scenes through to the end of the year and that was meant to be it.
“But now the bosses are looking at ways to bring him back in future to give the fans what they want.”
Emmerdale has been contacted for comment.
