Here are a few ways to keep your food safe to eat in the fridge and freezer during a power outage.

The National Weather Service in Buffalo released its two-day peak wind report late Thursday, showing widespread strong winds across western and central New York on November 26–27.

The highest gust reported was 68 mph at Buffalo Airport Wednesday night. Several other locations also recorded wind gusts over 50 mph, including 56 mph near Fredonia, 55 mph at Irving’s North Breakwater, 54 mph at Niagara Falls Airport, and 52 mph at Rochester Airport.

In the Southern Tier, Wellsville Airport reached 49 mph, while Delevan in Cattaraugus County reported 45 mph. Chautauqua County saw multiple high readings, with Dunkirk and Fredonia each reporting gusts near 48 mph.

Northern counties also experienced significant winds: Cape Vincent in Jefferson County reported 45 mph, with several other sites in Jefferson, Lewis, and Oswego counties registering 40 mph or higher.
