Jérôme Roussillon joins the Addicks

Charlton Athletic are delighted to announce the signing of Guadeloupe international Jérôme Roussillon.

The 32-year-old left-sided defender arrives with a wealth of experience having made almost 400 career appearances, 20 of which have come in the Champions League and the Europa League.

After putting pen to paper on a short-term contract, Roussillon said: “I’m really happy to be here and be part of the team. I’m excited to get started and can’t wait to play in front of our supporters.”

Manager Nathan Jones commented: “We’re delighted to be able to bring in someone with Jérôme’s experience. We’ve obviously been light in that area with the injury to Josh Edwards and it’s the only position that we haven’t really got cover on, so we’re please to bring Jérôme in to give us more competition and quality in that area.”

Born in Sarcelles, France, Roussillon began his professional career at Sochaux before joining Ligue 1 side Montpellier in 2015.

After three seasons with Montpellier, the defender moved to German top-flight outfit VfL Wolfsburg, where he would taste European football for the first time.

Roussillon switched Wolfsburg for fellow Bundesliga side Union Berlin in January 2023 and helped Die Eisernen earn a fourth-place finish in his debut season to secure Champions League football.

He has also represented France at U18 and U20 level and earned eight senior caps for Guadeloupe, scoring twice.

Roussillon has been signed in time to be eligible for the Addicks’ trip to Coventry City on Saturday.
