In a TikTok that went viral, posted by Jarred Jermaine (@jarredjermaine), the popular influencer asked his 5.6 million followers: “Did you know Steve from Stranger Things (Joe Keery) made music?”, reports The Mirror.
One astonished fan wrote: “Joe Keery is from DJO? ? ? how am i only finding out now? I’ve been a fan since 2019! ! !”, while another added: “I thought this was a Tame Impala song”.
“What!”, “No way” and “Girl, that’s him?” were among the shocked responses to the revelation.
It appears TikTok users weren’t alone in their surprise at Djo’s breakthrough, as Joe himself recently acknowledged he was ‘more baffled than ever’.
“I have literally no idea what’s going on,” he told The Rolling Stone in a recent interview.
“I’m probably more confused than ever, but it’s really, really cool to see something that you’ve written affect people and have them take it in as their own and into their own lives.”
Joe isn’t the first celebrity to balance both acting and music, with household names like Ariana Grande and Miley Cyrus also launching their careers on Nickelodeon and Disney programs.
Though Joe has no plans to abandon acting for music entirely, he says it fulfills his ‘creative itch’ between auditions and new projects.
“People can see themselves in the song,” he continued. “People substitute [my experience] for their own version in their own lives. It’s not a feeling that’s unique in their own lives.”
