Hull City assistant boss Dean Holden believes there’s more to come from in-form striker Joe Gelhardt, and says he’s feeling the love from supporters.

Gelhardt has been in superb form in recent weeks, picking up the goalscoring mantle in the absence of Oli McBurnie, with his goals helping City rise as high as fifth in the Championship, before defeats to QPR and Ipswich Town saw them drop down to 11th.

The Leeds United loanee’s form has attracted significant interest outside of East Yorkshire, and Holden believes that with each passing week, the 23-year-old is gaining more and more belief in his own abilities.

“He’ll be the first to tell you as well that he’s got huge amounts to keep improving on, and he’s in good form, of course he is, and he has confidence as well,” Holden told Hull Live.

“When he gets in the moments (he takes them), we work hard on the transition and make sure that we give ourselves as much opportunity to kill an opponent when we regain it.

“I think you saw with that first goal (at QPR), Reegs (Slater) back tackling wins it, and you’ve got Enis (Destan) running, you’ve got Joffo running down the side, and they’re big moments for us in games.

“Joffo’s just gaining more and more belief, week after week. The more he goes out there, the more he gets this game time. The more he gets the love from the fans, and he’s scoring. He knows how valuable he is to us, he’s a fantastic lad to work with.

“You can’t get him off the training pitch for a start; he’s very resilient. He works hard. When you watch it with the eyes, there’s not many that do more running than him. You see him defensively; he never stops, does he?

“He’s emptying the tank in every game, and that’s obviously something that the manager puts on all the players, and he’s certainly doing his bit.”
