Ligue 1 weekend predictions, odds & best tips: PSG should punish misfiring Monaco

Paris St-Germain flexed their attacking muscles in a 5-3 victory at home to Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday and they will be looking to maintain their pace at the top of Ligue 1 on Saturday’s trip to Monaco.

Marseille and Lens are the nearest pursuers to PSG in the title race and they will be hoping to keep the pressure on with wins over Toulouse and Angers.

Ligue 1 predictions & tips for this weekend’s matches

Metz vs Rennes

Kick-off: 7.45pm Friday

It’s three straight Ligue 1 victories for Rennes, who hammered Monaco 4-1 on their own patch last time out, and the Red and Blacks are playing well enough to keep the winning run going at Metz.

Prediction: Rennes

Monaco vs Paris Saint-Germain

Kick-off: 4pm Saturday

Paris Saint-Germain are in the winning habit and should be backed here. They have gone unbeaten in five of their last six Ligue 1 head-to-head meetings with Monaco, and enjoyed a 5-3 success over Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday.

Prediction: Paris Saint-Germain

Paris FC vs Auxerre

Kick-off: 6pm Saturday

Paris FC look the best bet when they host Auxerre at Stade Jean-Bouin. The visitors have lost nine of their last 11 Ligue 1 matches and this trip to the capital can expose their shortcomings.

Prediction: Paris FC

Marseille vs Toulouse

Kick-off: 8.05pm Saturday

Marseille should be backed to beat Toulouse at home in Ligue 1. Roberto De Zerbi’s side are second in the table and Marseille have gone unbeaten in 23 of the last 24 head-to-head meetings with Toulouse. The visitors are tenth and have not won in four games.

Prediction: Marseille

Strasbourg vs Brest

Kick-off: 2pm Sunday

Strasbourg have enjoyed success in seven of their last nine home games in Ligue 1 while Brest haven’t found a way to score in five of their last seven Ligue 1 games. The best bet is Strasbourg.

Prediction: Strasbourg

Angers vs Lens

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

Back Lens to pick up where they left off and win here. Lens have kept clean sheets in the last three Ligue 1 meetings with Angers and that defensive solidity provides a great foundation for this trip.

Prediction: Lens

Le Havre vs Lille

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

Both teams have scored in all but two of Le Havre’s last 15 games and there looks a strong chance there will be plenty of goals in this one as Lille are on fire in the final third. They scored four goals in their Europa League game against Dinamo Zagreb on Thursday and can mark their mark here.

Prediction: Both teams to score

Lorient vs Nice

Kick-off: 4.15pm Sunday

Lorient are winless in their last seven matches, but they have been handed a great chance to put that right on Sunday. Visitors Nice have lost their last five matches, including a 5-1 defeat to Marseille in their last league outing, and that dismal run suggests they are there for the taking.

Prediction: Lorient

Lyon vs Nantes

Kick-off: 7.45pm Sunday

The best bet is Les Gones. Lyon have won four of their last five Ligue 1 home games against Nantes and that dominance seems likely to continue at the Groupama Stadium on Sunday.

Prediction: Lyon
