Winter weather system to bring quick burst of snow overnight across Northeast Ohio

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A fast-moving winter system is expected to sweep across Northeast Ohio late Saturday, bringing a quick burst of snow that could create slick roads overnight, according to the National Weather Service in Cleveland.

The agency issued a hazardous weather outlook for much of Northeast Ohio, including Cuyahoga, Lake, Geauga and Ashtabula counties, as well as several counties in northwest Pennsylvania.

The weather service said a period of moderate snow is expected late Saturday evening into the overnight hours, capable of producing 1 to 3 inches of wet accumulation. Temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-30s by Sunday morning, causing rain to mix with the snow.

Travelers should be prepared for reduced visibility and slippery conditions early Sunday, the weather service said.

Looking ahead, NWS Cleveland said light to moderate snow accumulations are possible Monday night into Tuesday as another low-pressure system slides southeast of the region.

Forecasters noted that additional impacts may develop as the week progresses.

The new weather system comes two days after Northeast Ohio faced its first significant snowfall of the year. Thanksgiving Day brought 12 inches of snow to Aurora and Solon, 10 inches to Middlefield and 9 to Brooklyn, according to the weather service.
